Becoming an Engineer

an academic endeavor of epic proportions

Steve’s Debt

Let me first start out by saying that I have ZERO credit card debt. With that aside, I’ve done pretty well at keeping my debt low. The total cost of my education at Shawnee State University has amounted to $44,383. People are often shocked when they hear the number because although college is expensive, many people do not understand exactly how expensive college can be. Keep in mind that I do not live on campus (but have had an apartment that was exponentially cheaper than on-campus housing). At the time, the house paid for itself because I could walk to the university instead of having to commute (Remember $4 gasoline?).

The Breakdown:

$44,383 Cost of Attending
-$15,052
Subsidized Stafford
-$12,990
Unsubsidized Stafford
-$16,341
Grants, Work-Study
======================
$28,042 Total Debt

I’ve taken the Don Harrold approach to debt reduction (note that I’ve marked actual debt in red,  and earned “credit” in green). I limit my spending, I don’t buy things I don’t need. If I put something on a credit card, I immediately repay it. The  “buy me a coffee” button at the bottom of my posts doesn’t actually buy me a coffee, it goes toward paying my student debt.

If you like this blog post, buy me a coffee.

  • Welcome to my Life =)

    Hello there! I'm Steven, and I have Dyscalculia. For most people, numerical dyslexia would not be an issue. However, I'm very stubborn, so I'm following my dreams of becoming a Civil Engineer. This blog will serve as a place for me to share my story, post my resume, raise awareness about Dyscalculia, and maybe earn a few dollars for books and tuition.
